TDVA Honors Dr. Fredrickson

TDVA attended the Rolling Inspiration Spinal Cord Injury Support Group held on 31 January 2014 at Warm Springs Rehabilitation Hospital. Each member of the support group introduced themselves and shared their life experiences and struggles with spinal cord injury, spinal bifida, and traumatic brain injury. During the event, TDVA presented Dr. Mark Fredrickson with an engraved plaque of appreciation for his dedicated service of 15 years to the Audie L Murphy VA Medical Center Spinal Cord Injury Unit where he worked with military veterans from all eras and wars. Dr. Fredrickson has now joined Warm Springs as an Assistant Director in Rehab Medicine. Despite being a quadriplegic, he was an undergraduate and graduate Medical student from UCLA Berkeley and is a board-certified physician in rehab and neurological medicine. Dr. Fredrickson is trained in the care of a wide range of disorders that include brain injury, multiple trauma and spinal cord disorders. He is currently working on several projects that are comprehensive studies of recently injured individuals and the long term effects of nerve dysfunction among aging paralyzed individuals. He also invited everyone to join Dive Pirates and experience underwater scuba diving and its therapeutic benefits. Dr. Fredrickson proceeded to answer questions from group members. The mission of Rolling Inspiration is to provide a place to bring together those living with mobility impairments, to meet other survivors and to educate and encourage those with mobility impairments.
