PTSD & Mental Heath, Our Battle for Veterans

On January 4, 2012, TDVA attended the “PTSD & Mental Health, Our Battle for Veterans” hosted by the San Antonio Coalition for Veterans. Over 70 Veterans organizations attended the meeting with guest speaker Rev. Dr. Chrys Parker a clinical chaplain, pastoral counselor and trauma therapist who has provided care for over 2500 traumatized persons. Dr. Parker specializes in the spiritual and psychological care of those who suffer from PTSD as a result of combat, critical burn injury and sexual assault, and provides professional consultation and education to physicians, surgeons, and psychiatrists. The meeting was held at the Alamo Area Council of Governments. There were many other great speakers who addressed the issues of PTSD among the Veteran community. "Mixed Ability" Bowling Tourney

On 22 July 2011, 20 bowlers participated in the “Mixed Ability” Bowling Tournament located at the Oak Hills Bowling Alley. The tournament consisted of one power chair ramp bowler, one manual chair bowler, and one abled bodied bowler per team. Each member of the winning team received a $50.00 gift card and a lunch, that was provided for all participants and volunteers. Bowlers who participated were veterans and the event was organized by the Audie L. Murphy VAMC Spinal Cord Injury Recreation Therapy. Special thanks to José Laguna, Gary Garcia, Patricia Phelps and many other volunteers. Pictured above are bowlers in action!

1st Annual Operation Comfort, Memorial Day Car Show

TDVA attended the 1st Annual Operation Comfort, Memorial Day Car Show on 30 May 2011 in Helotes, Texas. The event was attended by many veterans and supporters honoring Memorial Day. There were over 100 classic and vintage vehicles on display and everyone enjoyed food, refreshments, music, and an appearance by the San Antonio Spurs Coyote and Spurs cheerleaders. The event was hosted by the Helotes AG Booster Club and South Texas Car Club to raise money for Wounded Warriors.
